Looking back in time to holiday in Crete in 2018 when I was still trying to find the photo of the Mystery Camera Boy. Strands of the story coming together. I found the photo last year, and its first appearance in the comic was in page 8. Page 10 forms a bridge to page 11, which was started at the same time as page 1. All will become clearer.
Page 9 of the comic completed. At least in black & white state. I still intend to colour these pages at some point. This feels like such an important page, with the Spirit Guide Woman Ember stepping into the story. I’m looking forward to the next 2 pages, and then from page 13 the pace will really shift up a couple of gears.
Double Page Spread (DPS) of pages 8 & 9 shaping up on my drawing board. Slowly but surely. Some rough pencils laid down last night for the bottom panels of page 9.
Alignment issues are likely! & I may even reference that in the story. Things aligning is definitely a theme in the story. The Woman Ember has emerged to be a really significant character in this story. A Spiritual Guide. Stay tuned.
I’ve recommitted to The Artist’s Way course (Julia Cameron). I tried it once before, about 5 years ago, but I was in a much more difficult place then, and I gave up after a month or so. Feeling more positive about it now, thanks to support, and hopeful it will help me with artistic development & especially with the comic.
This current page (9) of comic has felt stuck for a while now, but there’s hope in recent meditations that movement & healing will find a way into the story. Old patterns need to be identified & broken for positive transformation to take place. It’s so important right now to stay positive & not get pulled back into the black cloud of depression.
Everybody is on their own unique journey, and compassion for that feels so important right now. If a broken guy is rebuilding himself through a comic: cut him some slack 🙂
Page 9 of Dasie Litral & The Mystery Camera Boy is taking shape slowly. Or fast. Time has taken on new meaning over these past couple of months since finding my Soul Buddy. The story of The Mystery Camera Boy is also taking on deeper and deeper meaning for me. Sometimes things really do take decades to unfold. Love will always find a way.
So much synchronicity right now. Strands of the comic coming together and surprising me with just how therapeutic applying myself to this proves to be. Seeds sown years ago start to grow and spiritual advice of decades ago comes full circle and leaves me breathless with wonder and crying with gratitude. (this is page 9: in progress)
Page 8 introduces the wonderful Woman-Ember. The photo is recreated from the original photo of the Mystery Camera Boy.
My main 2020 Art goals are:
Focus on progressing Dasie Litral & The Mystery Camera Boy #1 to 26 pages & get the Kickstarter live.
Evolve my comic-making art style & process so that I can flow with Time & not against it & have a more productive next decade!
Integrate comics into my day job & progress the ideas I had at Graphic Medicine 2019 Conference in Brighton.
Breaking through creative blocks, self-doubt, procrastination, depression, burn out, and anxiety are all massive challenges, but with the right plan, motivation and help they are achievable. I’m currently inspired by accountability help from an awesome comics maker.
Best wishes 🙂
